Book Launch by Peter Kuhn - 12 Step Zen: Pathways of Recovery

On October 11, Thich Nhat Hanh's 100th birthday, please join us for the launch of 12 Step Zen: Pathways of Recovery (Parallax Press) by Peter Kuhn, a Dharma teacher in the Plum Village Zen lineage. Peter will offer a dedication, meditation, short talk, and reading, followed by questions and a book signing.

Drawing on four decades of recovery and more than two decades of Buddhist practice, Peter shows how recovery and Zen merge into one path, each illuminating and strengthening the other. The book helps readers transform suffering and compulsive patterns through awareness, compassion, community, and mindful living.

At the center of the book are the Seven Factors of Awakening—mindfulness, investigation, diligence, joy, ease, concentration, and equanimity—which Peter presents as a practical map for recovery and spiritual growth.

A jazz musician, Peter describes recovery as a living practice of listening, responding, and harmonizing with the dissonance. Weaving the melodies of addiction, loss, transformation, and awakening with the Twelve Steps and foundational Buddhist teachings, he shares a song of hope, resilience, and discovery that helps us meet our lives and our recovery with fresh eyes and ears.

“For anyone seeking a way to deepen recovery and find joy and meaning in this very life, this will be a treasured guidebook,” writes Kevin Griffin, author of “One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps,” in the book’s foreword.

Books are available at the Buddha For You store. The eBook and audiobook are available through major online booksellers and audiobook platforms.
